Re: How the Hammers struck bronze......
Did they show the huge gaps between the tiers with the athletics track and seats below. Did they show us the gaps round the pitch or the scaffold seating because I don’t recall that at all.
They were very careful to not show much in their artists impressions apart from a packed stadium viewed from the lower tiers at angles where that is all you could see.

i dont get this bollocks about deceiving fans. The plans were in the public domain for 3 fucking years before we moved in. they showed exactly what it would look like.

Re: How the Hammers struck bronze......
Yes all correct I’m sure, but you can see that whoever it was at the time in charge that they wanted us to move into a stadium designed with us in mind.
It is not G&$ fault that it was not but they deceived the fans about the stadium and their real ambitions as they were desperate to get us in there regardless. I'm sure they would have accepted any compromise.
We have gone backwards, there is no ambition at all beyond mid table which we were achieving at Upton Park.
They will be held to sccount

Re: How the Hammers struck bronze......
You also have to remember that roughly four weeks later the Icelandics took over West Ham, I would suggest that Terry Brown would not have gone to Ken Livingstone with that offer if they were not already quite some way along to finalising the takeover, and therefore clearly the backing and money would have been coming from the Icelandic consortium.

Re: How the Hammers struck bronze......
Sullivan has no connection to West Ham. When at Birmingham he was asked what other club might he have invested in. His answer was Cardiff.
Having lived and worked in Essex for 40 odd years owning West Ham is convenient for him, the ground being just a short ride on the tube from Theydon.

Re: How the Hammers struck bronze......
getting the stadium was the catalyst for the interest shown at the time. Brown did the early work, then magnusson offered £100 million toward it when they took over.

So from Trevs link.......

”The talks were between Hammers chairman Terry Brown and senior Olympic figures.

Caborn added: "Talks are going on about whether they could do a similar thing to Manchester City when they took over the Commonwealth Games stadium in 2002."

Re: How the Hammers struck bronze......
My memory is sketchy but I am sure when we got the Olympics in 2006 Brown was in charge and he wanted us to move in after and wanted it built with football in mind but Red Ken and Coe said no. Then when the Icelandics took over they went back and said we still wanted it but then they went bust and it all went quiet. Maybe it was them who offered the 100m but Brown definitely registered our interest before it was built and they insisted it was not going to be used for football.

"Terry Brown was a cunt but he would never have sold Upton Park and moved us unless it was to a fit for football stadium, probably that we owned too or at least were in in from the start. He offered 100m for it to be built with us and football in mind initially when we first got awarded the Olympics."

Only Gold is a fan, Sullivan is Cardiff I think and he is the non senile younger major shareholder.
Yeh Terry Brown was a cunt but he would never have sold Upton Park and moved us unless it was to a fit for football stadium, probably that we owned too or at least were in in from the start. Sold - Of course they are businessmen, that old chestnut, surely you could say the same that about all owners.

I'm not convinced they only care about a profit on any potential future sale and just finishing 17th every year before that may happen. This summer will tell us a lot more how serious they are about progressing the playing side.
